Teens

Alpine Connection takes a holistic approach in helping clients by assessing emotional, relational, psychological, physical, and spiritual needs. We believe it would be a disservice to our clients to focus on only one of these needs at the risk of neglecting the others.  In working with adolescents, our team excels in communication and coordination between therapist(s), parents, doctors, school counselors, youth leaders, etc.

Alpine Connection is committed to helping teens and individuals struggling with:

  1. Depression
  2. Anger
  3. Anxiety
  4. Self-injury
  5. Addiction and substance abuse
  6. Rebellion
  7. Divorce and blended family issues
  8. Spiritual issues
  9. School-related issues
  10. Impulse control issues

Parents

Sometimes teens will refuse to step foot in the counseling office and parents are left longing for options.  Experience has shown that in these situations, counseling is usually best for those who see there is a problem and need help - namely, the parents.

This form of therapy helps parents better understand what options they have when dealing with a defiant or unresponsive teen who may be at high-risk.  Many parents begin to beat themselves up because they feel they don't have the tools to help their teen. However, this form of therapy for parents offers many benefits:

  1. Helps parents understand if their child is in a high-risk situation
  2. Provides objective feedback regarding your options
  3. Teaches parents how to take the power back in their home in an effort to benefit the whole family
  4. Help parents discover what leverage they actually do have when dealing with a defiant child
  5. Equips parents to become a unified front in raising their kids
  6. Teaches parents to distinguish between their issues and their teen's issues.
  7. Provides hope for your current family situation by empowering parents with new solutions

Family Therapy

Many therapists agree that family counseling is one of the most powerful and effective approaches to finding new solutions.

In family therapy, everyone begins to realize how we all have roles in the current situation and how members of the family, through open and honest communication, can begin to make small changes that make life more manageable for everyone.  Even if the teen is targeted as the individual who is causing turmoil in the family, just the power of hearing that everyone could do a better job opens up a new glimmer of hope and provides a better opportunity for the teen to become involved in new solutions for the family.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is a powerful supplement or alternative to individual therapy. Group therapy is led by a trained therapist with 7-10 teens who struggle with similar issues such as depression, self-injury, substance abuse, anger, rebellion, etc. Group meets weekly at the Alpine Connection offices and lasts for an hour and a half and runs in 6-week intervals. Please call 719.233.TEEN (8336) to check availability for open groups and meeting times.

Group therapy options:

1. Teen group therapy: This group helps teens who are struggling with specific issues including anger management, addiction, mood disorders, self-injury, etc. Many teens have found this option to be even more beneficial than individual therapy due to the weekly community and accountability from their peers. This group will also include some out-of-office experiential opportunities that will help teens gain a better awareness of themselves, how they interact with others, and how to find new solutions for the issue(s) they are facing.

2. Parent group therapy: This group helps parent(s) who are struggling with raising their teen(s).  Parent group therapy provides professional guidance from a trained therapist in addition to the collective wisdom of the group in providing new solutions for you and your family.

3. Faith-based group: This group will challenge teens to explore and grow in their spiritual journey and faith in God. Through faith-based activities, your teen will learn how to make right choices and discover their God-given potential to follow through on these choices. This group will emphasize the importance of their spirituality (non-specific to any particular denomination or church), and will also include some out-of-office experiential opportunities.

4. YMCA workout group: This group includes free access to the YMCA and all their facilities and will include weekly goals for personal health with individual workouts as well as group team sports supervised by an Alpine Connection leader.
