Seminar description:
HOW TO HELP TEENS THAT SELF INJURE:
This seminar is designed to provide the most current information available regarding the topic of self-injury, why teens turn to it and how to help. Divided into two sections, the first half of the seminar covers:
*Key definitions
*Understanding what self-injury is and is not
*Common themes of why teens self-injure
*Strategies for engaging students in positive communication
*Tools for communicating with parents
*Solution focused treatment strategies
*”Alternatives” to self-injury
*Teen success stories
Additionally provided are practical tools that can be used to distinguish the different types of cutters and how to then find the appropriate treatment for each.
During the seminar's second half, Christian leads a unique Q and A session with a panel of teens that represent many stages of self-injury, including former teen cutters and those who are currently still struggling in the area of self-injury. This invaluable time with actual cutters is an opportunity for the seminar participants to ask their most urgent questions or share their concerns with the teens themselves. In turn, the teen panel shares firsthand accounts of their personal journeys, covering:
*The first time they heard of cutting
*What ultimately caused them to make the decision to self-injure
*What they believe it did for them
*How it impacted both their lives and their family’s lives
*How they succeeded in getting healthy
The format of this seminar is designed to be conversational in nature, offering the best opportunity to have a complete range of questions answered and providing the most comprehensive understanding necessary to help teens who self-injure.
